| Alfredo Pasta and Garlic Bread About 2 months ago, I finally asked out a girl (let's call her Clara) I was friends with. We had been friends for a while now, we met freshman year in college, and I started liking her around mid-freshman year. She's pretty well acquainted with my friend group since we're all in the same engineering LLP (a living-learning program). I finally got the courage to ask her out at the beginning of junior year (this year), and she said yes. So far everything has been pretty good. The relationship is slow, but its good. Yesterday, one of my friends (let's call him Jacob) asked me to get dinner alone because he wanted to talk to me about something, and during dinner he decided to lore drop that my gf and one of my best friends (also in the friend group, let's call him Ethan) used to hook up, and they had been hooking up for 2 years. Ethan is one of my best friends, and we care about each other a lot. Jacob then told me I was the only one in the friend group who didn't know and that no one told me because they didn't want me to be hurt. Apparently, they stopped hooking up during the summer because Clara wanted something more serious and caught feelings, and Ethan didn't. Jacob told me I should probably break up with her, and that Clara is probably just using me to get back at Ethan. Jacob told me that he found this out last week and wanted to wait until midterms were over so I didn't flunk my tests because he thought this information might distract me. He said that he went drinking with Ethan, and that's when he found out. Ethan later told him not to say anything to me after he sobered up. I really don't know how to feel. I think I feel kind of betrayed, honestly. Everyone in my friend group has known I've liked Clara since freshman year, and one of my best friends just decided to hook up with her behind my back. He tells me pretty much everything and has never hesitated to. Why hide something like this? I was hoping that she wouldn't just get with me to get back at Ethan, but honestly, I was really shocked when she said yes after I asked her out because she really hadn't shown much interest in me. So maybe Jacob isn't lying. I asked my entire friend group (minus Ethan) if they knew that Clara and Ethan were hooking up, and they all said yes. What should I do? Is it a big deal, or am I being dramatic? Edit: For those of you saying that I'm calling "dibs" on Clara, I'm not. I just feel like since Ethan is my friend, and one of my best friends, he should be helping me out with the girl that I've liked for 2 years. Ethan doesn't even like Clara. I think Jacob might be right, because they stopped hooking up in August, and she got with me a month later. Jacob is dating one of my other friends. I didn't sleep with my friend when Jacob told me that he liked her. I helped Jacob ask her out. I just feel like Ethan doesn't care about my feelings enough. More context: Yes, me and Ethan are best friends. He is one of my homeboys, and we care abt each other, and we tell each other pretty much everything, so this came as a bit of a shock. He's never had an issue telling me anything Jacob found out last week. The other guy (lets call him Liam) has known since the beginning. Liam and Ethan are close, so it makes sense Ethan told him at the very beginning. The other guy (let's call him Emmanuel) found out when he saw Ethan and Clara making out at a party. He found out last year and also didn’t tell me. For those of you asking, me and Clara haven't slept together yet. I'm a pretty reserved guy when it comes to that stuff. Clara also hasn't initiated anything. [link] [comments] |
