There was just a post from a person who came and excitedly posted their collection and it had lots of Scene It, Monopoly, and Connect Four. As expected, OP got lots of vitriol in the comments and just plain nasty comments on the quality of the games he had.
I feel like this community likes to pretend that it is welcoming and friendly to newcomers and it’s anything but, in my experience. If you don’t have Spirit Island or Brass Birmingham or whatever the hot game is, you will not be treated nicely.
There’s also lots of “go join a board game meetup!” suggestions from people on here and I cringe when I see them because let’s be honest those meetups more often than not are filled with exactly the kind of people I described above.
It’s a serious issue. The lack of social skills in this hobby is extremely concerning and it drives so many people away. The OP who posted the post I described above seems to have already deleted the post. Yay Reddit. You drove another one off…
