I thought we were vibing. We’re both in our early 30s and have a lot in common. She’s been very open with me in conversation to the point of expressing sexual quirks and discussions with her therapist. My relationship wasn’t working so I broke it off and asked her one day after work if “She wanted to talk”. She reacted with disappointment and said “maybe”.
The next day she was clearly upset with me. It’s difficult to find opportunities to speak privately so I thought if I kept my distance and tried to act normal she’d understand that I received her message. However her nonverbal behavior towards me has become increasingly cold.
Last week I mustered the courage for the storm and apologized to her for asking. She said “I appreciate that” and walked off. I thought things would get better, but they again seem to be worsening. Like she can’t even stand the sight of me. She basically runs to get around me if we’re ever alone in the same area.
I really don’t know what to do, I just want to put her back at ease. It’s okay that she doesn’t have feelings for me. There was maybe one day I could feel hurt and disappointment about that, but now I’m just afraid for the repercussions at work. I just want to give her whatever she needs to feel a little more comfortable around me again, but I don’t know how to do that. I feel like if we could talk more and she could vent at me it would help but I don’t want to approach her either. I can text her but I’m worried about that too. She’s vented to me so many times in the past it’s really sad we’ve gone from pretty close friends to this. What can I do Reddit?
