Passengers on a small commuter plane were waiting for the flight to leave. They were getting a little impatient, but the airport staff assured them that the pilots would be there soon. Finally, two men dressed in pilot uniforms walked up the aisle. Both wore dark glasses, one was using a seeing-eye dog, and the other was tapping his way up the aisle with a cane. Nervous laughter spread through the cabin but the men entered the cockpit, closed the door, and started up the engines. The passengers glanced nervously around, searching for some sign that this was just a little practical joke. None was forthcoming. The plane moved faster and faster down the runway, and the people at the windows realized that they were headed straight for the water at the edge of the airport. As people see the water approaching, panicked screams filled the cabin, but at that moment the plane lifted smoothly into the air. The passengers relaxed and laughed a little sheepishly, and soon they all retreated into their magazines, secure in the knowledge that the plane was in good hands. In the cockpit, the pilot turned to the co-pilot and said, “You know, Bob, one of these days, they’re gonna scream too late, and we’re all gonna die!”

Stole the following from FB, and it's a pretty good commentary on why you shouldn't buy, or even play the upcoming JKR Hogwarts game
So let me get this straight. There's a new, very polished video game set in the Wizarding World of committed transphobe JK Rowling. The plot of the game is that there is a rebellion of goblins who are fighting against racial discrimination and prejudice by the Ministry of Magic and the wizarding community as a whole. From the Harry Potter Compendium - "The Goblin Rebellions were a series of rebellions in which the goblin population of the Wizarding world revolted against discrimination and prejudice toward their kind by wizards and witches. They were most prevalent during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, but even in modern times there are subversive goblin groups working in secret against the Ministry of Magic, according to the Daily Prophet. The historical rebellions have been described as "bloody and vicious." ...These rebellions may have occurred because of lack of goblin representation [in magical Parliament], attempts to enslave goblins as house-elves, stripping of wand privileges, wizard attempts to control Gringotts, or the brutal goblin slayings by Yardley Platt."
And you, the hero, are a wizard whose ultimate task it is to quash the rebellion and put these goblins back in their rightful place under the rule of the wizards.
The goblins of the HP series have long been criticized as offensive Jewish stereotypes, with critics pointing out their control of the magical banking system, their greed, and their exaggerated facial features. And the game is set in 1890, around the time the antisemitic hoax "Protocols of the Elders of Zion" was being developed (published 1903 amidst a new wave of antisemitism in Europe). Part of the official gameplay reveal shows the two villains, Ranrok the goblin (pictured) and Victor Rookwood the dark wizard, discussing what appears to be a child abduction scheme. From a fandom site: "Ranrok was a very greedy individual who sought to claim a magical power he caught a glimpse of that wizardkind hid even from themselves. His worldview was skewed by his hatred for all wizards and witches, who he sought to destroy entirely."
The lead designer for Avalanche Games, Troy Leavitt, has been a harsh critic of social justice movements, was a proponent of Gamergate, called the MeToo movement a "moral panic," and claimed that society gives deferential treatment to LGBTQ+, POC, women, and disabled people. And Warner Brothers knew this before they hired him to make this game. This game where the player fights against greedy, child-abducting Jewish stereotypes. The game where the player suppresses an uprising of an oppressed race who are pushing back against their own disenfranchisement, disarmament, slavery, and murder, in order to maintain the supremacy of the dominant culture.
Um...
WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK IS THIS NONSENSE?
Listen, friends. I know a lot of you still love the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. You've got a lot of emotional baggage tied up in whether you're a member of House Braggadocio, House GiftedChild, House SamwiseGamgee, or House EugenicsAreGoodActually. But I beg you, please, don't buy this game. Walk away from both Rowling and the Wizarding World. Don't give Warner Brothers any more money."

My girlfriend and my sister have a same name, that made my life into a living hell. Whenever we are making love in bed and she's about to orgasm, she wants me to yell her name; but it make me uneasy quiet a lot. Because doing it reminds me of my girlfriend. What should I do?
Hi HN,
While in the process of creating my own service, I've been doing a bit of research into the legality of web scraping. All the court cases I've seen around it seem to imply that it's a violation of the CFAA to scrape data that is behind authentication.
However, Plaid seems to be doing just fine in this regard, as none of this banking data is publicly accessible. Sure, users are only accessing data that they would otherwise have access to, and Plaid is only facilitating this data transmission through scraping, however I am unable to find anything in the court cases that makes such a distinction.
I guess what I'm asking is "is it legal for a service to scrape data behind an authentication wall if the user has granted permission for that service to access said data", and if it is illegal, "how is Plaid operating within the confines of the law?"
Obviously I'm not asking anyone to leave real legal advice, I'm only asking for people's personal interpretations or theories.

They said it was because their electricity bill was 10 grand a month. I said they should turn off some of their lights then. They said they can't turn them all off, but they do dim sum.
Pre-pandemic I endured a daily commute of nearly two hours, door-to-door, from Long Island into Manhattan. These days I don't commute as frequently, but the experience has instilled in me an apprecation for a backpack that can carry almost anything I can possibly need from a laptop and pens to aspirin and duct tape.
My Nomatic backpack has served me extraordinarily well for a few years, but its age is showing and it's time for a potential upgrade.
So I ask you, hacker community: do you have any suggestions?

So for those of you that dont know Christ commented the following in his latest post here (link to the comment):
I'm just going to reply to this one comment because I need to take a break from this. But I have seen this sentiment a few times and I wanted to address it.
Please re-read the post we made yesterday. It clarifies that drops for average players are where they were before. You find 25% more currency from regular content than you did before the expansion deployed, for example. You find more than 50% more unique items from regular content!
There is no winning the lottery needed. This is a misconception that is causing a lot of damage and I don't know where it came from. The whole point of all of this was to tone down the lottery wins to not be 15k unique items and to be more appropriate. So the very few elite people took a hit (but are still doing fine) and everyone else benefited. Somehow it created the perception that we did the exact opposite.
So basically telling us we (the average player) get more loot than we did in Sentinel and previous leagues and we are just making shit up for the last days. According to his commment we decided that instead of playing the game we love and have loved for years it will be a better use of our time to cry on reddit for a matter that doesnt exist apparently. So yeah this basically confirms GGG will not be making further changes to loot and we can stop cheking reddit.
A gay couple(Jeremiah and Roger) was traveling on a plane.
"What if we had sex?" asks Jeremiah.
"Are you crazy? Here, on the plane? Everyone would be watching us..."
"Nobody is even paying attention to anything. Look!"
Jeremiah stands up and asks loudly:
"Could I have a napkin, please?"
Nobody gives a damn. Everyone is sleeping, reading, looking out the window, etc. Flight attendants pretend to not hear them, as they also don't give a damn.
"They really wouldn't care then, would they?" says Roger
So Jeremiah and Roger have wild sex on the plane.
Later, when the plane arrives to the airport and the people are leaving, one of the flight attendants sees an old man who threw up all over his shirt, even his pants are soaking in the filth.
"Sir, you should've asked for a bag!"
"I didn't dare" replies the old man with a terrified look on his face. "A few rows ahead I saw a man asking for a napkin and he got fucked in the ass..."

I'm wondering if it's possible to successfully strike on my own, as say a startup founder or an indie gamedev, if my body is just not compatible with working 60 hours per week, as is advocated by the likes of Jon Blow or John Carmack. Did anyone here accomplish anything hard, while only being able to work for say 20-25 hours per week? BTW I'm not interested in accomplishments while working for someone else (i.e. in a job), as I've had career success already and know that it can be done under such limitations.

In the 2020s most old generation people are retiring and not only the replacement generations smaller but there is gap in generational knowledge transfer. What do you think is important tech out there in which are we are losing our collective knowledge and hard won wisdom?

Blonde says to the paramedic, "I think I have concussion."
Paramedic asks the blonde, "How many fingers have I got up?"
Blonde screams, "Oh my God, "I'm paralyzed from the waist down."
When you fork a repository, GitHub won't add any contributions you make to the fork in your contribution matrix. These will be counted only after you create a PR to the original repo and it gets merged!!!
Can anybody explain why GitHub works like this and if there's a way to disable it for my forks?
I understand that instead of forking through github I could "fork" manually by cloning and changing the origin to my repo, but why not make it easy?
