One moment that changed your country forever.

The 9/11 Attacks (September 11, 2001)

On a beautiful autumn day in 2001, three hijacked Boeing 747 passenger jets crashed into the Pentagon in Washington DC and the iconic Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, forever changing the social fabric of the United States of America.

It may sound cliche, but for Americans of a certain age, this was the watershed moment of our lives. The clearest picture of an America before and after. The 1990s were a time of relative peace and prosperity in the United States. We were 20 years removed from our last major ground war. The Cold War had ended, and with it the twin threats of Communism and nuclear war. One last gasp of Pax Americana.

Before we all watched it come crashing down on live television.

The 9/11 attacks directly led to increased xenophobia and racial violence, with Muslims of all nations attacked indiscriminately in those early days. We wasted 20 years and thousands of men fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan, leaving behind nothing but broken promises and bodies. We still profoundly feel the effects of this event every single day, as it directly shaped the America we live in today.
