Being a PhD student in computer science about to finish her degree, I have often felt discouraged by academia in general, and academic papers in particular. I have succeeded in publishing papers that I, in hindsight, found too complex, and had papers rejected when I put effort into making the methodology sound simple.
So, here's a thought: what if we all write an "honest version" of our paper? Instead of the classical abstract, intro, background ..., you would have something like a single-sentence summary and graphics, the real reason why you wrote the paper (e.g. I wanted to publish in that conference badly, so I reverse-engineered it) and the methodology in layman's terms.
How do you find the idea and what sections would you like to see?
