AITA for humiliating a 'fat acceptance' girl?

By February 04, 2019 , No comments

Using a throwaway for this cause I have a feeling this will be a shitshow.

I'm a girl in high school. For reference, I'm a swimmer and go to gym 3 times a week.

There's this girl at my school, let's call her Maddie. And she's bordering on morbidly obese. And she regularly posts fat acceptance type shit on her snapchat story- all sizes are okay, guys should learn to accept all body types, etc. She says she's body positive, except logically speaking, she's really not. She always talks shit about skinny and/or athletic girls, calling them 'skinny bitches', saying they're insecure and starve themselves for guys, etc, etc. If she were, as she said, body positive, she'd be fine with all body types. Calling yourself body positive and then trashing any girl that isn't fat doesn't make sense.

And I responded to one of snapchat stories basically calling out her hypocrisy. She just posts my response on her story, again saying in the caption how I must starve myself and still my boyfriend didn't find me hot and cheated on me with somebody else. The last part really pissed me off, since I had just found out a few days ago he was cheating, and she knew and deliberately targeted that.

By this point I was really upset. At first I just didn't like her logic and was pointing out it's flaws. But she went after me personally, and that's really annoying. Like, calling out my argument is one thing, but insulting me like that is another.

So I decided, if she's going personal, I would too. I created an Instagram poll, basically "do you find her name attractive at all". The poll was overwhelmingly no. I screenshotted the results and posted then on my snapchat story, with the caption 'guess your body positivity crusade isn't working'.

This was thursday afternoon. On Friday, everybody was laughing about it. But Maddie, who's in a few of my classes, seemed really upset about all of it. Normally she's a very assertive, in-your-face kinda person. But she was really quiet, and it looked like she's ben crying.

I still feel kinda guilty. So am I the asshole here?
