Addressing the elephant in the room of how nasty and unwelcoming this community is

There was just a post from a person who came and excitedly posted their collection and it had lots of Scene It, Monopoly, and Connect Four. As expected, OP got lots of vitriol in the comments and just plain nasty comments on the quality of the games he had.

I feel like this community likes to pretend that it is welcoming and friendly to newcomers and it’s anything but, in my experience. If you don’t have Spirit Island or Brass Birmingham or whatever the hot game is, you will not be treated nicely.

There’s also lots of “go join a board game meetup!” suggestions from people on here and I cringe when I see them because let’s be honest those meetups more often than not are filled with exactly the kind of people I described above.

It’s a serious issue. The lack of social skills in this hobby is extremely concerning and it drives so many people away. The OP who posted the post I described above seems to have already deleted the post. Yay Reddit. You drove another one off…

Hiding BG3 from my date...

In the middle of my 2nd date with this girl she drops a bomb that she really dislikes gaming.

She said it was a losers habit and asked me if I play at all and I said only a bit, if i have time.

Oh boy...

Am I wrong for not giving my husband sex often ?

He is a 31 M and I am a 29 F

EDIT : we have sex once every 2 weeks. When I’m ovulating I tend to be more willing to have sex so during that week it’s like 2-3 times. I also pull some weight by working 3 days a week

. The last few months he’s been telling me his coworkers have sex with their husbands when the husband ask. He’s been overhearing their conversations at work apparently. (He’s one of the few male nurses at his location) I for one don’t just agree to doing that. Sex should be mutual. Not something to be done because the man said so.

We have 3 kids (6, 4 and a still breast fed 2 years old) I cook and clean and do things with the kiddos all the way to bed time. When he comes home from work her either takes a nap or hops on the game. By the end of the night I’m exhausted. It’s been difficult for me to have any type of sex drive due to everything around me and I’ve been used in relationships for sex before so I take my No’s to sex seriously. But because of this he told me I’m not caring for his needs.

I understand he does a lot for our family and that working at 4 am isn’t easy. I give him his rest. I let him do as he pleases. I’m just drained. Half the time he has a chance when the girls are asleep but he’s still gaming by the time I get to sleepy to bother with sex.

Now this has driven a wedge in our relationship. Am I wrong?

EDIT #2 : did not expect so much traction on here. I appreciate any and all comments and advice. This place has been a safe zone for my thoughts even if it’s invalid or not. So you’re messages are appreciated if you agree or disagree with me I’ll take them all into consideration. I’d like to respond to everyone but alas. I have children I need to attend. ☺️

Dragon

The dragon I promised for the Year of the Dragon—maybe a bit bigger than a bunny, LOL! I kicked off this project about a year back, right after Brickvention2023, and I’ve been working at it on and off. Got serious about a month ago, and I’m pretty happy about how it turned out. No strings, no wires, not a drop of glue, not even a flexible tube. It stretches a solid 2 meters when fully spread out, around 1300 scales and made up of 6500-7000 pieces. Should I be worried about how fat my cat is?

This is my child Harry (Short for Sir Harrington the 3rd, there is no 1st or 2nd) and I’ve had my child since he was 2-3 months old and I love him dearly. About a year or so after owning him he broke his leg and I had to pay for him to have surgery. The vet taking care of him did tell me he was a bit overweight but wasn’t too big of a deal. After the surgery he was very very drugged up and lazy for a week, but everything went well. A few months after that I moved away for a year, leaving his care to my mother. When I came back home he was a lot fatter than when I left him. He’s definitely gotten lazier and fatter and I just want to know how worried I should be.
