Ask HN: How does capability change with age?

I'm an engineer (HW) in my early 40s, I've been lucky to have a good career so far, and have been promoted to a fairly senior position. The issue is I've really struggled this past few months. Im responsible for architecture, and while I've ways had a bit of imposter syndrome, I feel lately I've an engineering equivalent of writers block. It doesn't help that most of my day is taken up in meetings, and 'consulting' on / supporting older projects, but it feels like my inventiveness which I've always prided myself on has waned, and I'm less productive. Is this age? Is it burn out? I've even wondered if it's 'long covid' (not that I was diagnosed with covid at any point), or is it that I've been promoted to the point of uselessness? I'd love to hear if anyone else has experienceed this. Ive always been confident in my enginnering capabilities and have many projects under my belt I'm proud of, but right now I'm wondering it I'm done, if such a thing happens. I want to continue to produce, I just haven't been able or had time. Thoughts?

Dudes of AskMen, do you take the ethics of a company in consideration when buying things?

My wife recently talked to me about how bad Dove and Unilever as a whole is after I bought some of their Dove men+care body wash. I then realized how little I've thought about the ethics of a company before buying their products. I never thought that this is part of being a good shopper. Am I the only one or do ethics matter for you guys? Also if you know any good companies, feel free to share

Edit: Damn this post seemed to strike a chord with a lot of you. A lot of you mentioned that you don't have the time to find ethical companies so I'll put some here and you can check them out. Although there are many companies that are "unethical" to varying degrees, there are some that're quite good. I've looked through their documentation before putting them on here so you can rest assured that I haven't fallen for BS advertising. (DM if you want me to add any)

Ask HN: Roadmap for Learning Low Level Computing

Hello, I am just a student with some experience in Python, some Lisp dialects, nowadays using mainly C++. As I wish to pursue career in programming, I feel like it is important for me to get good with low level programming so that I can understand what is running underneath, write performant code, and also reduce time learning new technology.

The thing is I'm not sure where to start...Do I start learning systems programming? Or compilers? Probably C and ASM? If anyone can propose a good way to learn low level computing, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
